Introduction

The following lesson plan is designed to give an insight on the Snakes of Pakistan . Generally, all snakes are considered poisonous and based on this notion they have been killed by human beings from ages. Infact, this wrong assumption is accelerating  their extinction rate. However, on contrary, only 20 - 30 % percent of the known species of snakes are poisonous and can be harmful.

This lesson would enable learners to differentiate between poisonous and non-poisonous snakes based on their distinguished morphological characteristics. The lesson would also enable them to identify and describe characteristics of various  snakes found in Pakistan. The lesson would assist   learners to become sensitize towards the, illegal killing and export of snakes and its impact on our ecosystem. They would also be aware of the myths, attached with this creature, which  sometimes, result in aggravating the situation.

In short, this lesson would enable students to understand its significance for  us and to explore the recent developments, regarding the use of snakes as a commercial, ecological and medicinal entity. In addition , students can disseminate knowledge about them by discussing the importance and threats attached to snakes with their families, friends and communities. Beside awareness about the snakes of Pakistan, the lesson would also polish the thinking, communication, presentation and research skills of the students.
