White-tailed Eagle
Haliaeetus albicilla (Linnaeus)

Identification: It is the largest of all the eagles measuring about 69 to 91 cm. in length. It has an earthy brown plumage accompanied by a paler head, with a very large yellow bill, neck and upper breast. The tail is white, short and wedge-shaped.

Habitat: It is found around the coasts, large lakes and low lying inland areas.

Distribution: It is a winter visitor to Sindh, Punjab,Balochistan and NWFP.

Breeding: There is no breeding evidence in Pakistan. It breeds between March-May and lays two eggs per clutch.

Food: It feeds largely on fish but will prey on small mammals and ducks as well as carrion.

Status: Rare
