Egyptian Vulture
Neophron percnopterus (Linnaeus)

Identification:The length of the vulture is approximately 60 to70 cm. It has a dirty white plumage and black wing tips. The colour of the legs and feet are dusky yellow and the claws are black. The bare part of the head and bill is yellow, the latter ending in a black tip. The breast and belly are white in colour and it has a short, white, wedge-shaped tail.

Habitat: It is found close to human settlements, especially near garbage dumps and slaughterhouses.

Distribution: Egyptian Vultures are widely distributed in all four provinces of the country. Though resident in plains, they migrate locally in mountainous regions.

Breeding: It is reported to breed in the Indus Valley and upper Sindh. Its breeding season varies from February to April and it lays 2 eggs per clutch.

Food: Its diet consists of human refuse, carrion, insects, snails, crustaceans, birds' eggs etc.
