Greater Spotted Eagle
Aquila clanga (Pallas)

Identification: It is often confused with the Tawny Eagle in the field, measuring about 65-72 cm. in length. It has a dark brown plumage with a strong, purplish gloss on its upper parts. The head and neck are pale and its tail is barred. The barrings are mottled, being gray and brown, tipped with white followed by a black, broad sub-terminal band. The skin of the cere and feet is yellow and the eyes are brown.

Habitat: It occurs near lakes, canals and marshes.

Distribution: It is a resident bird of Sindh and Punjab.

Breeding: It breeds from April to June and lays 2 eggs

Food: Feeds on carrion, rodents, reptiles, ground birds etc.

Status: Common
