Long-legged Buzzard
Buteo rufinus (Cretzschmar)

Identification: It looks like an immature Brahminy Kite measuring about 61 cm. in length and varies widely in colour. The overall colouration of the body plumage varies from reddish brown and fulvous to pale sandy white. The head, neck and tail appears brown or almost white . The colour of its legs and cere is yellow and it has brown eyes.

Habitat: It is found in semi-desert areas, deciduous forests and cultivated lands.

Distribution: It is a winter visitor to Sindh, Punjab,Balochistan and NWFP.

Breeding: It breeds between March and May. The number of eggs laid varies between 2-3 per clutch.

Food: It feeds on locusts, frogs, reptiles, sick and disabled birds, small mammals and carrion. In semi-desert areas it feeds on gerbils, spiny tailed lizards, etc.
