Bonelli's Eagle
Hieraaetus fasciatus (Vieillot)

Identification: It is almost the size of a Greater Spotted Eagle, measuring about 62-72 cm. in length. The upper plumage is dark brown, whereas the underside is white bearing dark longitudinal streaks. The wings are short and rounded. The long tail is gray on top and white below and has a broad, black sub-terminal band. The darker upper side appears striking, in contrast with the lighter underside. Skin of the cere and feet is yellow. Eye colour is also yellow

Habitat: It is found in rough, arid, open country.

Distribution: It is a resident bird. It occurs in Sindh, Balochistan, NWFP and Punjab.

Breeding: Bonelli's Eagle breeds between December and January and normally lays 2 eggs. Breeding evidence of this bird has not yet been recorded from any part of the country.

Food: It feeds on birds like Mynas, House Crows, Pigeons, Crow Pheasants, Partridges, Bustards, Pond Herons, Storks etc.
