Milvus migrans govinda (Sykes)

Identification: It is about the size of a Buzzard measuring around 61 cm. in length, having a rufous head and neck with distinct stripes on them. It has long, narrow wings and a forked tail that facilitates it in flight.

Habitat: It is found commonly in towns and villages and can be seen hovering over rubbish dumps and slaughterhouses in large numbers. It is considered hazardous to aircrafts.

Distribution: Resident of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and NWFP.

Breeding: Breeding season extends from September to April and it lays 2 or 3 eggs.

Food: It feeds on all kinds of things like insects, birds, offal, garbage, carrion, etc.

Status: Abundant
