Cinereous Vulture
Aegypius monachus (Linnaeus)

Identification: It is a huge black bird measuring about 100 to 110 cm. in length. The overall colouration of the body plumage is either black or blackish brown. The neck is bare and pink and is surrounded by a distinct black ruff. The head is also small and bare.

Habitat: It is found in semi-desert areas.

Distribution: It is a resident and breeding bird of Balochistan and the tribal areas of NWFP.

Breeding: It breeds between March and April and lays a single egg.

Food: It feeds chiefly on carrion but also kills small rodents, hares, birds and even tortoises.

Status: Scarce
