Tawny Eagle
Aquila rapax vindhiana (Franklin)
Identification: It is a medium to large sized eagle measuring about 63-71 cm. in length. It usually has brown plumage but the colour may vary from pale brown to almost black to white. The wings are long almost reaching the tip of the tail when the bird is at rest. The tail is broad and round like a vulture but is a little longer.
Habitat: It is found in semi-desert areas and can be seen perched on trees.
Distribution: It is resident in Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab and NWFP.
Breeding: It breeds between November and March / April and lays 2-3 eggs in a clutch.
Food: The Tawny Eagle feeds on carrion, small birds and reptiles.
