Sooty Falcon
Falco concolor (Temminck)

Identification: Sooty Falcons are slender, measuring about 33 to 38 cm. As the name suggests its plumage is uniformly sooty. Adults occur in two colour phases - light, uniform gray, and dark slate brown-gray. It has dark brown eyes and prominent yellow cere and legs. The primaries are charcoal gray, without any markings. There is a malar stripe below the eyes.

Habitat: It is found in desert regions on low cliffs, under rocks and in highly arid coastal areas.

Distribution: Occurs as a summer breeder along the Makran Coast begining from Ormara and extending westwards.

Breeding: It breeds in the Makran Coast and lays 2 eggs in a clutch.

Food: It feeds on small birds, insects and bats.

Status: Rare
