Pallas's Fish Eagle
Haliaeetus leucoryphus (Pallas)
Identification: Pallas's Fishing Eagle is about 76-84 cm long. It has a brown plumage with a pale head and neck and a broad tail that has a sub-terminal white band. Eyes are light grey-brown, and the beak and cere are dull-grey in colour. The legs are dusky yellow.
Habitat: It is found near rivers and large lakes.
Distribution: It is a resident as well as a locally migrant bird found in Sindh and Punjab.
Breeding: Its breeding has been recorded along the River Indus, Ghauspur, Kallar Kahar and Nammal lakes. Breeding season extends from October to February. It lays from 2 to 4 eggs.
Food: It feeds on coots, purple moorhens, water birds, snakes, frogs, freshwater turtles and carrion.
