Gyps indicus (Scopoli)

Identification: It is the smallest of vultures, measuring about 95 to100 cm. in length. The upper part of the plumage is an earthy brown. A distinct ruff of white coloured feathers is present around the base of the neck. The head and neck are entirely bald and shiny.

Habitat: It is found in the Himalayan foothills and plains and in the deserts. It is considered hazardous to aircrafts.

Distribution: It is a resident bird of Sindh.

Breeding: It breeds during January and February and lays 1 egg per clutch.

Food: It is exclusively a carrion feeder.

Status: Endangered
